Why are French and English so similar? -
Salut Ă tou.te.s,
En remontant plus de mille ans en arriĂšre, rencontrons Guillaume le ConquĂ©rant, duc de Normandie. MĂ©content de la succession royale en Angleterre, il dĂ©cide de conquĂ©rir le pays, amenant avec lui le proto-français et imposant la langue aux Anglo-Saxons. De lĂ , des mots ont Ă©tĂ© empruntĂ©s et adaptĂ©s du français Ă lâanglais et vice versa depuis un millĂ©naire.
Going back more than a thousand years, let's meet William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. Dissatisfied with the royal succession in England, he decided to conquer the country, bringing with him proto-French and imposing the language on the Anglo-Saxons. From there, words have been borrowed and adapted from French to English and vice versa for a millenium.
