Jacques-Louis David est cĆ©lĆØbre pour ses portraits grandioses de NapolĆ©on et pour son rĆ“le de chef de file du mouvement nĆ©oclassique. Il est intĆ©ressant de noter que son premier choix fut de revisiter les thĆØmes classiques, comme la mythologie grecque. Cependant, son engagement dans la RĆ©volution franƧaise l'a amenĆ© Ć peindre des situations contemporaines, telles que Ā«Ā Le Sacre de NapolĆ©onĀ Ā», ce qui, paradoxalement, a fait de lui l'un des peintres les plus avant-gardistes de sa gĆ©nĆ©ration. Cette annĆ©e, le MusĆ©e du Louvre cĆ©lĆØbre le bicentenaire de sa mort par une Ć©norme exposition.
Jacques-Louis David is renowned for his grandiose paintings of Napoleon, as well as for being a leader of the neoclassical movement. Interestingly, his first choice was to bring back classical themes, such as Greek mythology. However, because of his involvement in the French Revolution, he started painting contemporary situations, such as āThe Coronation of Napoleonā, which ironically made him one of the most avant-garde painters of his generation. This year, the Louvre Museum is celebrating the bicentennial of his death with a major exhibition.
