Why are French and English so similar? -
Going back more than a thousand years, let's meet William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. Dissatisfied with the royal succession in England, he decided to conquer the country, bringing with him proto-French and imposing the language on the Anglo-Saxons. From there, words have been borrowed and adapted from French to English and vice versa for a millenium.
